Create Visio Drawings

Recommended Posts

With this you can now make your Visio drawing for your agent tabs. This can help all your tech's in your company understand how things are layed out in a location, and its relationship to other devices.

Please let me know your thoughts and comments!

***Standard LTG Discalmer!***

Please backup your database before doing this:

Import .sql file:

step1.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAGR4NEcLQGDl7YihxABtZQVNa3zchhhSegRbmTQp4PtNQ

If you have the following warning you have the full file:

step3.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAG07EuwFWD7F2AKZFnAtyPeSnwoZvymBCyTzeKZ5Bgsgw

Now that you have the drawing loaded and now you are ready to get started:

step5.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAGzL5XJbeHMapkz8rqH2bmAu7UAzYFJWALKSrmQnIHdUA

Now, Let's get Visio to connect to your LT database:

Select 'Data' and then 'Link Data to Shapes':

step6.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAF1b7CrJIgRghjM8oTDUOU2Ygfy34dFVsBqwulIDcxt6w

If you have the following warning you have the full file:

step3.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAG07EuwFWD7F2AKZFnAtyPeSnwoZvymBCyTzeKZ5Bgsgw

Now Start Visio. Select either 'Detailed Network Diagram' or 'Detailed Network Diagram - 3D' depending on your preferences:

step4.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAFBP86HLM2HVoMgZxbCNHOrgvokORxpvVqu_VLVxbvgIg

Now that you have the drawing loaded and now you are ready to get started:

step5.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAGzL5XJbeHMapkz8rqH2bmAu7UAzYFJWALKSrmQnIHdUA

Now, Let's get Visio to connect to your LT database:

Select 'Data' and then 'Link Data to Shapes':

step6.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAF1b7CrJIgRghjM8oTDUOU2Ygfy34dFVsBqwulIDcxt6w

Select 'Other OLEB or ODBC data source':

step7.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAFq0MzAVtwkNbH9lCi-ufiJ0lYI3V-IeV45E0oXqXVyCQ

Next, select ODBC DSN:

step8.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAGz7l3wxpk9uDnxqql24kDkXpkEPH_ECDyjR0y5gob9yQ

Now select 'labtech':

step9.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAHWIJ8Fa8TBtZmiTK7quG8V-kNg7lhX5yrOxp86OcVWmw

This process will take a few minutes depending on the size of your database. When it is done, you need to scroll down to 'aaviziodrawing'. It will the first table in your list:

step10.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAFHbbN8SoBfr1shVtZEqZ6Lvtb1PDWizr8Dp_A0MV7ezw

Now just click Finish:

step11.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAFH1JxyayeFOylArnSmm0pQ-owbcU1LeKCNM_Vjb8DAYA

Now.. This process will take a few moments. Visio is currently pulling in all your data in your database.

Once this done, you will see a window like this:

step12.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAE2wfq3mLJpgXlJOMD7GNrKsnOCTclp12nQ9h0mHS75kg

Now organize your data by Location:

step13.png?dl=1&token_hash=AAHcex-L1ByVztbesV2F2dAVc-czKYzXWL7SeS5QPSl7pQ

Now, just put your items in your drawing........

Note: This is a one time run. If you update your device names, just re-run the script. It only take a few moments.

I am working on creating a 'view' version of this, and adding more information to the views. Let me know your thoughts, or what you would like to have added.

When I start the import, it warns of 10 statements. I've downloaded several times with the same results. Are the instructions not up to date or am I getting a corrupt download?

Does this need to be run directly on the server?

No sir. You can run Visio on your wks and connect to the LT server.

Can you please post the pictures when you get a chance? We are looking for a software where you import all the IPs, and the tool will make the Visio diagram for you. Not sure if there is one out there.

Thanks !!
