Software install with settings in HKCU

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I've got a program I am trying to create an "upgrade" script for, which basically just removes all previously found versions and installs the new one. The problem I'm running into is there is a registry entry for the install location, which is saved under HKCU.

Currently I just have the script set to run our agent as an admin, download a batch file that contains all the steps, and then runs it. It works, but it installs to whatever the "Install Location" value is set to. If I run it right from the workstation it does the steps I'd like it to perform (delete the value, delete all previously created shortcuts, and install the new version & copy over a pre-configured shortcut to public desktop).

The main issue is that currently the software is installed in different locations on each computer, depending on who was doing the install in the first place. The goal of this script is to make upgrades easier, and also more consistent.

I'd really appreciate any insight!
