Administrator credentials on per-machine basis?

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow geeks!

Does anyone know if there's a way of overriding the administrative credentials set at the location level on a per-machine basis? We have a handful of machines that aren't on the domain at their sites, and so we need a way to set admin creds to apply to those machines only.

Thanks!

We put the workgrouped agents into their own separate location that uses our local admin creds for that client.

Sure - and we can do separate locations if necessary. I'm hoping there's another option, though, as we have multiple machines with their own admin creds, and we're looking at having to make a new location for each one of these machines.

Why not set a local admin account on ALL workstations?  A simple script that runs on a daily basis that sets a random password per machine and writes to an EDF?

We are also running into this issue. @tvarvais Is this a script you are willing to share? Sounds like a good possibility.

See attached - Create a Computer EDF such as "Account Password"-  Would recommend placing it on it's own tab "Local Password".

You could create this into two separate scripts and then just run an If EDF Check to see if a password was already set to trigger a rotation on a daily/weekly basis.  (less overhead)

LocalAcctCreateRotate.xml
