java install script

Recommended Posts

No problem. I have a decent scale of clients with both version x86 and x64. I was trying to write a script that would first uninstall all versions of java first then pause (undetermined amount of time) then install both the latest version of Java but hit a wall. I can run an uninstaller and it works fine but I can't seem to tie the two together. Maybe I'll tweak your script.

Ok, I must have messed something up because it doesn't install either version now. Here it is.

The script(5843) was successful in the ELSE Section

If you don't want to manage it manually, something like AppCare, the Chocolatey Plugin, or NiNite plugins are your best bets. You could also roll something using the public Chocolately Nuget repositories (that's how I handle things). https://chocolatey.org/

Otherwise you'll need to spend a lot of time watching, testing, and updating scrips to handle new versions.

I looked into AppCare and found that all its features would be a great fit so I contacted our LabTech rep and found out that AppCare is not available on Cloud Clients, we have been hosted with LabTech since day one. What are some other solutions? Can anyone write a script for x86 Java?

This thread is full of scripts to install java, so I'm not sure what you are asking for if its not that.

I've attached the latest iteration of my java installer script

this script will install java x86 or upgrade it. It will only upgrade x64, not install it - since its rarely needed and usually only causes problems.

Java JRE v8.73 - x32 + x64.zip

Just wanted to see if anyone has a new or edited script to uninstall and update to the latest version of Java 8.111 (at time of this post). I have clients with x86 and x64 versions of Windows and Java.

We use a script to install Chocolatey with their provided powershell command and then another script that installs basic software using the chocolatey install command:

cinst -y -f jre8 googlechrome adobereader

Oh and then we have another script that checks an EDF which puts agents into a group that runs the chocolatey update script which keeps any software installed with chocolatey up to date.

We have been using Ninite Solution to update Java. Oracles' requirement of purchasing a subscription has brought about changes. With the announcement that the underlying Ninite Pro will no longer update Java, we are looking for other means. Using a script is an option but we really don't relish the idea of having to continually modify scripts for new releases. We're looking into other options but would like to know how others are dealing with these changes.
